Macau Museum

 

Macau has a unique history, a combination of both Portuguese and Chinese make a rich cultural heritage, which can be observed in the various Museums of the city as well as its Monuments.

 

Macau Museum

 

This Museum was inaugurated in 18th April, 1998 the museum occupies the ancient Fortress, which was built by the Jesuits at the beginning of the 17th century. Next to the fortress is S. Pauls's College otherwisde known as the College of the Mother of God. The museum also occupies Monte Fort and is facing the St. Pauls Ruins.

 

The museum possess a large number of objects which have historical value, in addition the museums has numerous artefacts which display the ways of life in the communities thoughout the centuries.

Genesis of Macau

 

This is a museum dedicated to various themes, but the first floor is dedicated to the  way the European and Chinese civilizations developed before they met, which was the time that Jorge Alvares arrived on the Pearl River Delta (1513).

Traditions and Popular Arts

 

The second floor of the museum is where the visitor comes into contact with the traditions and the cultural or popular art of the land. Various exhibits show the day to day life which includes rites, hobbies, rituals, festivals and the ways in which cultures live side by side are displayed.

Contemporary Macau

 

This shows Macau in the present time. This floor shows the characteristics of the Macau lifestyle. This floor also shows the relationship between Macaus republic of china.

Opening hours: From 10 a.am to 6.pm (tickets can be only be purchased up to 5.30pm) The Museum is closed Mondays and is open on public holidays.

 

The museum also has a souvenir shop.

 

Tickets: Elderly people (over 60) and students and children: The cost is 8 patacas;

For adults the cost is 15 patacas

There is free admission on the 15th of every month
